Denim + Hats

Denim + Hats

If there’s two things I love in this world, it’s denim and hats. Both of these items are staples in my wardrobe, and I think I wear denim shorts and a baseball hat to class a good 4 days a week when the weather is warmer.

This winter season, I’ve been trying to experiment more with different types of hats, such as berets and the oh-so-popular “Greek fisherman hats.” The fisherman style hat that I brought into this post was actually my grandfather’s hat that I found in one of his boxes in our family’s storage unit. Needless to say, I was more than happy when I found this hat since they’re definitely in style right now! Plus, it feels good to be able to wear some of my family’s old clothing items and introduce them in a modern outfit.

In today’s post, I have three outfits I want to share with you that incorporate both denim and hats (as well as white tops, coincidentally). This is my first time doing a post like this, so don’t mind my “modeling” face! It definitely needs some work…

Fashion Wishlist #1

Happy Wednesday y’all!

I’m back with another post, and today I wanted to start a new mini “series” of fashion wishlists on my blog! Obviously, I can’t just post one of these wishlists since I’m always yearning for new pieces to add to my wardrobe, so I’ll be (hopefully) making this more of a monthly thing.

I don’t really think I have a word to describe my style. I’m sort of all over the place, if I’m being honest! I’ve always loved a retro look, with my favorite era being the 60s and 70s, and I strived to dress in a vintage style when I was back in high school. Nowadays, I still like to incorporate some of those elements into my wardrobe (though not as often anymore), as well as trying to dress in a more “grown up” and mature sort of way with some preppy touches here and there.

That being said, these wishlists are going to be like how I described my style: all over the place. I don’t like to restrict myself by buying clothes that just have one central style or theme, so these posts will be full of clothes and accessories that I simply like, no matter if they match together or not. At the moment, I’m dreaming of warm weather and fun, preppy clothes, so that might be a big portion of these wishlists for now!

Now that that’s out of the way, here is my first fashion wish list:

Right now, I’m obsessing over bright colors (as you could probably tell) and I’m really wanting to incorporate more southern-inspired pieces into my everyday wardrobe. I’m hoping that warmer weather and blue skies will be right around the corner to wash away the bland and dreary days we’ve been having so far, but if that doesn’t happen soon, these bright colors will help to bring a little fun into my days!

I can’t wait to do more posts like this and maybe even adding more specific wishlists for certain events, seasons, colors, styles, etc. throughout this series.

As always, thank you so much for taking time out of your day to read my blog! It means the absolute world to me.

How I’m Going To Make The Most Out Of 2018!

How I’m Going To Make The Most Out Of 2018!

Although I’m a little late to be ringing in the New Year with a blog post, I still thought that I should get around to writing again as I’ve been MIA since early December. It was a busy month for me, but I’m back now and eager to get 2018 going!

When January rolled around a few weeks ago, I was feeling a little lost as to what I wanted to have my New Years resolutions to be. Obviously, I didn’t have to form any resolutions, (since it’s not like I always follow them) but I felt like I needed something to keep in mind while going through this year to try and keep me somewhat on track in my life. The results were this: a blank list, a loss of motivation, and a disheartened mindset. I couldn’t think of one single thing that I would be able to follow. I had tried to do the typical “eat healthy and work out” resolutions in the past, but nothing ever stuck and I ended up feeling embarrassed and defeated every time I would get off track. Therefore, I wanted to have a resolution that would grant me the motivation to keep up with it and here’s where I landed!

About a week ago, I took to prayer in order to seek guidance for some things I was questioning in my life. As usual, I was questioning my path in life and my career, as well as my abilities and passions. I asked God why I’ve been struggling so much to find a career path that I love and why it felt like some people had an easier walk with finding their passions and hobbies. It felt like my eyes were opened up a little wider when I woke up the next day (no joke) and I felt a deeper calling to the career path that I’ve been iffy about, but considered for a long time – social work. The words “community outreach” were somehow all over my brain even though I have never really thought of that before in the past. To be completely honest, I didn’t even know what community outreach entailed before I did some research online that day. I found out that FSU has a community outreach program (what great luck!) that encourages students to go out and volunteer within the Tallahassee community to find organizations and different causes that they’re passionate about. This rambling story leads me to one of my first goals for this year – volunteering!

I believe that community service is so important because you’re becoming a part of something much bigger than yourself. I’ve always reminded myself that if you are able to help someone, no matter the consequences, you should always step forward to give them a hand. I’m hoping to join at least 3 new clubs on campus this year, as well as doing a volunteer project every week (if time and prior commitments allow), which is something that is so exciting to me! Some people in this world are going through unfortunate circumstances that may be out of their control and a simple act of kindness could really make the difference for them. So, if there’s a charity or volunteer opportunity that you’ve ever wanted to get involved in, give it a go this year! I’ll be right there with you.

The second goal that I’m hoping I can keep up with this year is being more positive in my conversations, in my thoughts, and for my outlook on life in general. I know that this one can be pretty difficult (and the advice is somewhat obvious), but staying positive can simply improve the quality of your life. If you’re anything like me, you’ll always find something that’s wrong and needs to be better, or you’ll find little things that annoy you throughout the day. This year, I’m trying to really think about the things that are causing me to have those negative thoughts and asking myself if it’s worth it to waste energy on them. Having a positive attitude will make you feel good. It will make you feel like you can take on the world and can help you be productive with your day. 2018 is the year for change, people! Help your mental health (and the people around you) and try to maintain a positivity streak! I’m going on 9 positive days in a row now 🙂

Another thing that I’m working on this year (which you can benefit from as well) is to try and limit the amount of things that make me anxious or uneasy and become more carefree. In terms of things that make me anxious, the list goes on and on: getting shots, being in large crowds of people, driving on busy roads, being around people who are sick, etc. Being anxious at times is OKAY. It’s NORMAL. Similar to how I’m trying to become more positive this year, the same idea applies to how I’m trying to become more carefree: I’m really thinking about the things that are making me uneasy and asking if it’s truly worth it to get myself worked up about them. Personally, I’m ready to live my life without any of those uneasy thoughts holding me back at times, so this is something that I’m going to try really hard to maintain throughout this year.

My hope for 2018 is that it’s the best year yet and I really think that these three goals are the foundations for getting me to that point. I’ve probably said this about a thousand times now, but I’m truly excited to see what God has in store for me this year!

I hope y’all have had a good start to your January so far and let me know if you have any resolutions/goals for this year!

The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand.” Psalm 37:23-24

November Favorites

November Favorites

November has come to an end, which means one thing – another favorites post! I found a few more things that I love this month and I want to share them with y’all. I’ll keep the intro short, so let’s get into it!

Skin Care

To start with the bigger skin care item, I was given this sonic face cleanser by my sister who wasn’t using it much anymore. Let me just say that I absolutely love this lil’ thing! It leaves my face feeling so much cleaner and really has the ability to get down deeper into my pores more so than my hands could. You can find this product here!Processed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 preset

I also love that this product is made out of silicone because it doesn’t carry the threat of hosting bacteria that can get spread onto your face. It also comes with a charging cord so you don’t have to worry about dealing with changing out batteries!

After cleaning out some products in my bathroom cabinet, I found this face mask that I’ve had around for a while but I’d sort of forgotten about. This is the Origins ‘Clear Improvement’ charcoal mask.

On the back of the bottle, it says that “Active Charcoal acts like a magnet to draw out deep-dwelling pore-cloggers” and goes on to talk about some of the other ingredients in the face mask. If you haven’t used a charcoal mask before, you really should, as it leaves your skin feeling so fresh and renewed after using it. There’s not much else I can really say about this product, so we’ll move on!

I’m not sure if I should place these under a “home” or “health” category, but here we are. I started using my essential oil diffuser again this month and I’ve noticed a difference in both how I sleep and how I feel whenever I’m in my room. I’ve mostly been using the same 3 oils this month, two of them being by the brand “Nature Love” and the other being from the brand ECO. Aroma.

I know these oils aren’t the best brands out there, but they’re cheap and they get the job done, especially the ‘Sinus Clear’ one. I put this in my diffuser whenever I feel like I have a cold coming on and let it run while I’m sleeping at night. This helps me wake up feeling better than I did the night before and helps with the relief of some of the cold symptoms that I might have been feeling.

Once again, I’m not sure which category to put these next things under, whether it’s clothing or accessories, but I’m just going to put them under the clothing category. I picked up these silk scarves and a bandana scarf (?) at a local thrift store back home and I absolutely love them!

I know I might be a little behind on the trend of wearing a bandana scarf around the neck, but I thought I’d give the trend a try and I’m so glad I did! The awesome thing about this scarf is that you can wear it in different ways, whether it’s used as a simple headband, tied around the neck, or tied in a top-knot with an up-do hairstyle. This is definitely something that I’ll be incorporating into my wardrobe more frequently now.

Last but not least, I have a beauty favorite for this month! Like last month, I found another lipstick that I like. I picked this lipstick up in Target during the first week of November and I really loved how it looked when I swatched it on my arm.

The color can be a little strong on your lips at first, but once you’ve been wearing it for a a little bit, the color starts to look so natural and flattering with your makeup. This is the Milani lipstick in the color ‘Pretty Natural,’ and the name totally makes sense.

Although my list was not long for this month, I still managed to find (and rediscover) some new products that I really enjoy using, as well as new trends that I hopped on. I’m super eager to find some new things to try out for the month of December, but until then, I hope everyone has a great start to the new month!

Autumnal Touches

Autumnal Touches

Hey, y’all! I thought I’d share with you a few autumnal touches I have around my room at the moment. I’m not going to lie, I’m already preparing for Christmas since I’m one of those people who gets just too dang excited for the month of December! So, before I completely immerse my room in festive decor, here are some of my favorite autumnal spaces and things in my room!

I’m totally itching to change my throw pillows right now because I have my Christmas ones all ready to go, but I feel like I would be socially exiled if I put them up before Thanksgiving, so these will have to do for now!

For some reason, I think candle sticks seem very appropriate for this time of the year. I love how they look with the other decor I have in my room, especially when I have one sitting next to a stack of my antique books.

Dried flowers are some of the easiest decor you can have in your home. Though it might take a few days for the flowers to be fully ready, they make for a beautiful touch in a home, especially when they are placed in a brown glass bottle. I also threw this feather I found while in North Carolina and I think it adds a different texture to the mix.

The last little thing I want to put in here is this hook that I place my keys on. Another thing that always reminds me of autumn and this time of year are deers, although I’m not sure why. This hook is made of distressed gold-colored metal and adds a fun element to my room.

Even though I’m eagerly awaiting for Christmas to finally be here, I still love my fall-centered decor I have in my room. I’m sure you’ll see another post after Thanksgiving showing you what Christmas decor I have in my room, but until then, enjoy your Monday and prepare your bellies for the massive feast called Thanksgiving next week!

North Carolina – August 2017

North Carolina – August 2017

In August, my parents and I took a trip up to North Carolina and Tennessee for a little vacation. I thought I’d add some pictures from our trip onto a blog post for everyone to see the antics we got up to!

Hopefully, we’ll be back for another vacation sometime soon. Happy Wednesday!

October Favorites 🎃

October Favorites 🎃

October is gone and I’m feeling both sad and excited. Sad because this year has been flying by and October is one of my favorite months, but also excited because this means November is here and that means Thanksgiving!!

I’ve recently been trying to write more blog posts, so I thought I would try something new and write a “favorites” post. Since it’s officially November now, I thought I’d share with y’all my favorite beauty and skin care products, as well as a sweet smelling favorite, for the month of October!

Skin Care

The first product that I want to mention is a face wash by the brand Simple. I’ve always struggled with acne, as I have pretty acne-prone skin, and this product has helped to maintain my breakouts for the most part this past month. This face wash is very moisturizing, and as someone with somewhat oily skin, it doesn’t over-produce oil by any means. It leaves your face feeling very clean and smooth, and for $4.89 at Target, it won’t break your budget!

The next product I’ll mention actually goes with the face wash. This is a moisturizer by the same brand, Simple. This product (as well as most other Simple products) has no harsh chemicals and no artificial perfumes or dyes that can irritate your skin, which is something that I really love about this brand. The only downside to having no artificial perfumes in this product is that it smells a little funny, but it doesn’t linger after you put it on your skin. It absorbs quickly and leaves your skin feeling very fresh and clean!

This month, I didn’t try too many new beauty products due to the fact that I’m in college without a source of income… 🙂 Because of those reasons, I only shop for cheaper/drug store makeup products that’ll still get the job done. One brand that I’ve apparently been sleeping on is Elf products and boy do I regret not trying them out sooner…

Most of their individual products only cost anywhere from $1-$5 and that’s an incredible deal to me. I picked up this liquid highlighter/illuminator for only $3.99 and it’s proven to be one of my favorite highlighters that I own. I really like to wear this product when I’m not wearing much foundation, as it helps to provide a natural glow and it seems to sink into my skin much better than powder highlighters. You can add multiple layers of this highlighter to make it more eye-catching, or you can add a thin layer to make it more subtle. There really is no wrong way to go about this product.

Trying to take a picture of your own arm is actually kind of difficult, to be honest

Another product that I tried this month was a lipstick. I’ve been on the search for the “perfect red” and I think I’ve finally come close to finding it. It’s been very difficult to find a red lipstick that suits my fair skin tone, especially one that has blue undertones. This is the L’Oreal Colour Riche Collection in the shade “Blake’s Red” from the Exclusive Reds Collection. Anytime I put it on (which hasn’t been that often) I feel like I’m some sort of a 1940s film star. It gives me such a vintage vibe and I wish that I had more places to wear this lipstick to.

The last things I want to mention in the beauty category are two nail polishes. One of them is the Essie gel top coat, which was a total splurge for me. At $11, I thought that this was pretty overpriced. I still took the risk and bought it, though, and I really should have done this sooner!! I’ve always had difficulty maintaining the nail polish on my fingers but this product has helped me keep my nails looking much better than they usually do.

I also used this nail polish for the first time in a while and I’ve been loving it recently! This is the Sally Hansen “Hard as Nails” brand in the shade Mauve Over, which I feel is a perfect fall color.

Please don’t mind my chubby hand 🙂

This time of year, there are loads of amazing home decor items that can be found at stores like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Ross, as well as fall-scented candles from Bath & Body Works. I picked up some candles towards the beginning of the month and, although I’m going to sound very basic for saying this, they undoubtedly smell like heaven in a jar. I got two candles (one of them is a Christmas one, so I’ll save it for later) and the one I’ve been really loving is in the scent ‘vanilla pumpkin marshmallow’. Anytime I have this candle lit, my whole apartment smells amazing.

Recently, the weather has been very cool and crisp, so I’ve had the windows open and let me tell you – you can smell this candle from outside and down the walkway. I only buy Bath & Body Works candles when they go on sale for around $11 or $12 each because, personally, I believe $22.50 for a candle is slightly expensive. Honestly, this candle is something that you’ll want if you truly love the autumnal season. Heaven in a jar, I tell ya!

I’ve really been loving all of these products lately and I’m so grateful that October was so good to me! I hope everyone has a great start to the new month of November, and I’ll see you in my next post!
