January Beauty Favorites

January Beauty Favorites

Happy (belated) February, friends!

I don’t know about you, but I feel like January FLEW by. I don’t mind, though, because that means there’s one less month until Spring Break!!

Over the past month, I tried some new beauty products that I thought I’d share with y’all. Two of these products are drugstore brands, and the other two are on the higher end. I know y’all aren’t here to listen to me ramble on, so I’ll just jump right into my beauty favorites for the month of January!

1. L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara

Retail: $6.50

If you haven’t heard about this mascara, let me be the first one to do so (and subsequently blow your mind while I’m at it.) This mascara is the drugstore dupe for the Too Faced “Better Than Sex” mascara, and I am in love.Ā I’m a sucker for a good ol’ bargain deal and this is truly my new staple product that I’ve been using everyday. Costing around 7 dollars at Target, this dupe is nearly 16 dollars less than the original higher-end product. Let me just tell you, this mascara makes my eyelashes look incredible and I’ve gotten so many compliments on them over the past month! This is probably my favorite product on this list and I can’t recommend it enough.

2. Mac’s “Creme in Your Coffee” Cremesheen Lipstick

Retail: $17.50

I first saw this lipstick in a video by Kristin Johns, and after seeing what the color looked like on her, I instantly wrote it down on a wishlist that I have on my phone. I mean, just look at it!

Please don’t mind my chipped nail polish! šŸ™Š

This shade is a perfect warm color for everyday-wear and I’ve been loving the creaminess of the formula. This is my first cremesheen lipstick by Mac and I can definitely see myself buying other cremesheen lipsticks in the near future!

3. Neutrogena Shine Control Foundation

Retail: $8.69 (Target)

As someone who has skin that falls closer to the oily end of the “skin spectrum,” I’m always struggling to find a foundation that doesn’t further worsen that oiliness I deal with. I took a random solo trip to Target to get vitamins and paper plates at the beginning of January and found myself straying closer to the makeup section and further away from the sections I needed to be in (as usual.) I never really took the time to look into Neutrogena’s makeup products, but boy am I glad I did!

This foundation not only keeps my skin feeling light and refreshed, but it also contains SPF in the formula, which isĀ always an added perk to any makeup product. This would be a perfect foundation to have in your spring break-beach trip makeup bag, as it melts right into your skin, has fairly medium coverage, and to me, I don’t even feel like I need to set this foundation with any powders. The next time I make a drugstore beauty run, I’ll definitely be checking out Neutrogena’s section for any new hidden gems.

4. Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

Retail: $27

Okay, Okay. I know I’m a little late to the game, but I decided to splurge and buy this product at the beginning of the month. I had been wanting this concealer forĀ such a long time, but never felt like spending the money on it. I’m glad I did, though, because this has easily become another staple in my makeup bag.

This concealer will last you a lifetime and a little definitely goes a long ways due to it’s high coverage. Although there has been some recent drama surrounding the new Shape Tape Foundation, I still love this product and I imagine I’ll be keeping this around in my makeup routine for a while.

So, that was my short list of beauty products that I loved over the month of January! I apologize for posting this so late; life has beenĀ very busy recently. I’ve been getting highly involved in clubs on campus and trying to make time for my studies, which has caused me to put my blog on the back burner for a little bit. Hopefully, I’ll be able to work on some more posts this weekend, but if not, I’m so sorry if I’m absent for a little while. School will always come first for me!

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Thursday, and I’ll see you in my next post!

Birthday Bits & Bobs

Birthday Bits & Bobs

Hey y’all!

My birthday has come and passed me by and now I’m all of a sudden 20 years old! It’s nice to know that I can’t be classified as a teenager anymore, so getting into my twenties has definitely had it’s perks in all of my 3 days of being one year older. This year, my birthday fell on a Tuesday, which wasn’t terrible, but it also wasn’t great. My parents had come up to visit the weekend prior which was spent out on my aunt & uncle’s boat on the Wakulla River dodging rain storms and enjoying the company of my family. We got sunburned as heck and my sister got sick on the night we went out to dinner to celebrate my birthday, but overall, it was a good weekend spent with the people that I love the most. On my actual birthday, my aunt took me out to the Tallahassee Museum and it was nice to just walk around and see all the animals and walk around the old buildings they have nestled away back there. Later that evening, my sister and her boyfriend took me out to dinner at a very fancy, relatively unknown restaurant in town called Cracker Barrel and filled up our little tummies before heading to the movies to see the film Dunkirk. If you haven’t seen it yet, I would highly recommend buying a ticket soon because this film isĀ very well done with amazing acting and cinematography. All in all, my birthday festivities were filled with a lot of love, laughs, and good food, so thank you to everyone who contributed to making me feel so loved over the past few days!

Now, on to the fun stuff! I got a few little goodies for my birthday that I wanted to share with everyone because I’ve really enjoyed using them so far and I wanted to sit down and write something for this blog.

For my birthday, I mainly got a few makeup items, a perfume, and some books from my sister. I’m super happy about all of these items because they were things that I needed in my life at this moment, so thank you mom, dad, and sissy!!

The first few things I’ll mention are the two Lorac lipsticks that I got.

Let me start of by saying that these are some of the smoothest and most buttery lipsticks I’ve used so far. I absolutely love how neutral the colors are, this first one being in the shade ‘Secret Agent’. I was in need of some lighter lipsticks (although this color is described as being a plum brown) in my makeup collection since I tend to gravitate towards buying the darker berry colors, which doesn’t necessarily go with my everyday makeup.

The second shade that I got was in the shade “Exhibitionist‘ and it is a lighter, more peachy-orange shade than Secret Agent. Both of these lipsticks come from Lorac’s ‘Alter Ego’ line, which, according to their website, contains antioxidants such as acai berry, pomegranate, grape seed extract, and vitamins C and E.

I want to throw a comparison out here with Lorac and Mac lipsticks, as I genuinely enjoy both brands, but I’d like to mention a few things. In terms of price, Mac lipsticks usually run at about $17 per tube, whereas Lorac runs at $18. Not a huge difference by any means, but I thought I would mention that they are pretty comparable in price. Personally, I’ve enjoyed using the Lorac more so than the Mac lipsticks so far. The Lorac lipsticks I previously mentioned are both matte and the major difference I see between the two brands is that Mac matte lipsticks dry out my lips to no end! Within an hour or two of putting on a matte lipstick from Mac, my lipstick gets crumbly and comes off and I feel like I need to coat my lips in copious amounts of chapstick at the end of the day. Maybe that’s just me? Who knows. I still love both brands, but I will most definitely be reaching for Lorac lipsticks next time I want a new matte rather than Mac.

Speaking of Mac lip products, I also received a full-sized lip liner/lipstick duo, which I have been really enjoying so far! The lip liner is in the shade ‘boldly bare,’ which my mom owns back at home and I absolutely loved using it when I visited for the Fourth of July. I used it almost everyday and now I have one of my own, so thank you mama! The lipstick is in the color ‘Velvet Teddy’ and this is another lighter colored lipstick that I can wear daily. It’s a beautiful shade that can be worn with a lighter makeup look and it really adds color to your face without over-doing it. I’ve already dug into all of these products, as you can probably tell, so I apologize for the messy-looking pictures of these products!

From top to bottom: Lorac’s Exhibitionist, Lorac’s Secret Agent, Mac’s Velvet Teddy, Mac’s Boldly Bare Lip Liner. As you can see, Velvet Teddy and Exhibitionist are very similar in color!

Each time I get a new eyeshadow pallete, I always run out of the lightest shade the quickest out of all of the other shadows in there. I love being able to set my eyeshadow primer with a light, all-over-the-lid color which gives a nice base to any other eyeshadows I apply. My skin is pretty fair, so if I want to rock a “barely there” makeup look, I need to cover up the rather dark veins and discolorations on my eyelids. So basically, I wear the lightest shades everyday no matter what makeup I’m wearing, which, as you can imagine, means that I run out of those shades almost immediately after getting the pallete. Because of this, I asked for a single eyeshadow that is similar to the typical lighter shades you usually get in every eyeshadow pallete and my mom got me the Mac eyeshadow in the color “Brule,” which is such a perfect shade for my skin color! I’m so excited to use this everyday because it applies so well and is decently pigmented to cover up my naturally darker eyelids.

The most exciting present I received this year was the perfume that I had my eyes on after falling in love with the scent when I used some samples that my mom had lying around her room. The perfume is the Jo Malone ‘Nectarine Blossom & Honey’ in the 1 fl. oz. bottle and I just have to say that, although I’ve only had it for 3 days, it is probably my favorite perfume I’ve ever had. The scent is just so fresh and sweet smelling and the packaging is just too darling.

DSC_0436DSC_0429

I’m not one to splurge on perfumes by any means. The perfume that I was wearing most recently up to this point was a $12, 3.4 fl. oz. perfume from TJ MAXX that smelled like the beach. This little 1 fl. oz. bottle from Jo Malone costs around $60, while the larger 3.4 fl. oz. bottle is around $130. I’m so happy to have gotten this perfume and I can definitely imagine myself buying the larger bottle in the future when I have enough money saved up!

I really am thankful for all of the birthday wishes, gifts, and love I received over the past week and I’m blessed to have lived to see another year in my life. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this post, as this is something that is a little new to me! I haven’t done any product reviews/hauls on this blog, but if that’s something that you’d be interested in seeing more often, let me know! I’d love to start doing monthly favorites and more fashion-related posts, so keep an eye out for those in the future. I hope y’all have a wonderful weekend!!
